This report will focus on the Truckee and Little Truckee Rivers. Since my last Report conditions on the rivers have changed quite a bit. Flows have dropped, the water temps are slowly creeping up, and the bugs are starting to move about more. This is all very exciting news for us anglers. I also find it to be the most challenging time of year with so much food available for the fish. This year, due to our giant winter and the ever changing water conditions, it seems to be taking some time for the fishing to really turn on. Get ready because we are very close to having some lights-out fishing on the rivers. Expect to see some people out and about with the upcoming holiday weekend.

Truckee River Conditions
Truckee River flows are 330cfs above Truckee and 635cfs at Boca. Water temps are 52-54 degrees mid-day. The water is very clear.
Truckee River Tactics
Truckee River tactics are starting to change with the water dropping. Nymphing is still going to be the most consistent method for catching fish. I suspect that will change in a hurry once the water warms a bit. The dry fly action should pick up. Green Drakes? This is the time. Managed to get some action blind fishing a dry the other day so the fish are starting to look up. The water is cool in the morning, the better action has been later in the day.
Truckee River Suggested Flies
Suggested flies for dries: Parachute Adams 10-14, Elk Hair Caddis 14-16, Royal Wulff 10-14, Chubby Chernoble 10, Double Dutch 8-10, Green Drake 10, Ants 10-16, Quigley Cripples 10-14, Missing link 14, and E/C Caddis 14-16. Truckee River Summary
The Truckee River is dropping into shape. Worth a look later in the day after the water has warmed a few degrees. Green Drakes should be showing up soon!
Little Truckee River Conditions
Little Truckee flows are 197cfs and the water clarity is good. Water temps are 50 degrees mid-day.
Little Truckee River Tactics
Little Truckee River tactics are to be ready for everything. Dries, nymphing, and streamers are all working on the LT. There have been some good Mayfly hatches mid-day with Caddis thrown in for good measure. The fish are looking up at times and eating dries. Nymphing has still been catching the most fish. There are lots of anglers out here so be patient and give each other some room.
