Truckee Tahoe Fly Fishing Report for April 8th, 2022

4seaslusser

Well I guess its been awhile since my last report. Just been taking care of business so I can fish a bunch this spring. Yes, Spring has Sprung up here in Truckee! We are probably a month ahead of schedule with runoff in full swing and the grass popping up in places. Don't be fooled, Ma Nature is trying to get one last cold snap in here this weekend into next week. Fishing has been a bit up and down with the temperature swings. Follow your Thermometer to the best fishing right now. It is early and the fish are just waking up.

The access to most of the Truckee River and local reservoirs is pretty good. I will add that it is mud season and if it rains at all some of the previously dry roads will be a muddy mess.

Looking ahead I have added some clinics for the spring and summer. There is more info on my website here or give me a call at 530-386-0525 to book a guided trip.

Truckee River Conditions

Truckee River flow in town is 268cfs and at Boca it is 775cfs. The temps are in the mid 40's with the runoff. The clarity at this time is good but could change with some rain.

Truckee River Tactics

The Truckee can be a mixed bag this time of year. There are some Skwalas and Blue Winged Olives popping mid-day but the fish haven't been consistently looking up yet. Nymphing has been getting it done as well as Streamers. Your not looking at big numbers of fish right now, however, some pretty nice ones are getting their photo taken. The water is still cold so hit the slower seams and pools. If we get some rain and the river gets turbid try bigger nymphs and streamers next to the bank.

Truckee River Summary

The Truckee River is fishing good at times right now. Flows are up a bit, waters temps are down, and accesss is good. Be ready for changing conditions with the next approaching storm and change tactics as needed. Remember it is still early out there although it doesn't feel like it.
