This report will cover the #truckeeriver. It is pretty much ground hog day around here. The storms from a few weeks ago gave us enough snow and water that we are pretty much at the same levels as the last report. We are still below normal. Come on March, let it snow! The flows out of Lake Tahoe and Stampede have be bumped up a little but everything is about the same. The fish are there and the ones that a getting caught are looking pretty darn nice. Remember to fish the heat of the day as the water is cold and so are the fish. A slight rise in temps can bring on the bite.
Remember it is "Winter Regulations" time of year for our area. This means that the Truckee River is open from Trout Creek to the stateline and the Little Truckee is open between Boca and Stampede reservoirs only. Zero Kill and barbless hooks only. Don't be fishing along 89 between Truckee and Tahoe City!

Truckee River Conditions
Flows on the Truckee are 121cfs in town and 344cfs at Boca inflow. Both are up a bit. The water is very clear and the temperature is 38 degrees mid-day
Truckee River Tactics
Again not much has changed here. Look for deeper slower runs at this time of year. If there is a hatch the fish may move up towards the riffles or faster water. There is still a pretty decent Midge and BWO hatch in the mid to late afternoons which has been getting some fish looking up.
1) Fish low and slow.
2) Fish the heat of the day.
3) Fish smaller flies. Midges and Mayflies are on the menu.
4) Nymphing will be most productive method.
5) Try a streamer.
As we move towards mid-March I would expect to see some Skwalas around and tend to loose the indicator in favor of the Dry/dropper. Gotta love the dry fly eat in winter.

Truckee River Summary
The weather has been super nice, cold, but nice. If you can get out then you have a shot at some decent fish. It is technical right now with smaller flies and fine tippet. There continues to be a pretty good Midge hatch in the afternoons. Keep and eye out for the Skwalas in March.
