Tahoe Fly Fishing Report Archives
|
Monday November 19, 2007
Hi everyone! I recently, returned to Truckee after a long stint of Steelhead fishing on the Rogue River for Morrisons Lodge. Had great time and caught some fish too. Maybe you don't know or forgot but, the Truckee, from Trout Creek to stateline, is now open to Catch and Release Fly Angling for the first time. The Little Truckee below Stampede Reservoir is also open with the same regulations. Shooter and I still plan on working at Alpine Meadows this winter and would really like to do some guiding on our days off from the resort. Give us a call and we'll see if our days will work out with yours.
This is the first season of year-round fly fishing on the rivers in this area and I suspect it will somewhat busy and anglers try to figure out what will work best. Based on what I have seen so far there is going to be Midges(18-20) and BWO's(16-20) both on top and nymphing. Hucking a streamer or two on a slow retrieve will get a grab as well.
The reservoirs in the area are open year-round as well. A word of caution, the pools are quite low and with the recent rains the banks are soft and muddy, very easy to get really stuck! Walking a little won't kill you and is actual as good way to fish these impoundments hitting the points, drop offs, and coves. Midges are coming off the late afternoon and fish are eating them on top it its not windy, witch hasn't been much this year. Streamers are a great way to cover some water and stay warm as well. The fish have been in fairly close when the sun is low or the sky is overcast.
Again if you want to try the winter fishing give me a call and we'll put it together.
Happy Holidays
Brian and Shooter
