Tahoe Fly Fishing Report Archives
|
Saturday, January 28, 2009
Thanks again to everyone who fished with me this last year and made it so much fun. Winter has had a hard time getting rolling here, but, when it did it was full speed ahead. The last part of December and first part of January had Shooter and I doing the ski patrol thing. He digs the snow. It wasn't until the 15th that we got out and did a little fishing. We had some friends in town and with the great weather we headed to Bishop for a couple days on the Owens and Hot Creek. The next week we stayed around here and managed some nice fish on the Little Truckee. This past week we have have a little storm with a lot of water and some nice snow at the end. We need some more snow so we have water for the summer. The skiing and the fishing are both good here now.
Looking ahead, at the end of February I will be at *The Fly Fishing Show* in Pleasanton CA. Come by the */Truckee Guide Network/* booth and say hello.
Truckee River *** The Truckee has been hit and miss lately. The rain this past week hopefully will stir it up a bit. It has been cold in the mornings so no use getting out before noon. The most action has been subsurface with midges(18-22), beatis(18-20), and steamers(8-10). Access is currently good but, that could change with more snow.
Little Truckee River**** The LT has been pretty good. The access is ski, hike, snowmobile, or drive in on compact snow and ice. In the morning it is good in the afternoon it is soft and some have gotten stuck. 4-wheel drive is recommend. Haven't seen too many working fish and have been mostly nymphing. Same as the main Truckee midges and beatis. However the little brown stones(16) are starting to make an afternoon appearance and Sqwalla nymphs are present.
Reservoirs * Boca, Prosser, and Stampede are frozen. Donner is still ice free.
